Our friendly and knowledgeable guide will whisk you off on an adventure that you wont forget! Passing through an old growth rainforest, then climbing to the top of the Malahat Mountain range, you will experience stunning views before arriving at our first stop. Wine tastings, cider tasting, lunch, and world famous balsamic vinegar are all part of the gorgeous Cowichan Valley. No need to worry about the driving!  You can enjoy the scenery, meet friendly locals and learn about the growing wine and cider industries in the area.

Traveling  along the quiet back roads, Cowichan’s riches begin to fully reveal  themselves in rolling hills and lush fields. Our guide  fills us in on  the key local players and history of the region’s growing wine scene.  The climate is surprisingly maritime Mediterranean, with warm and mild  winters, making this a prime spot for producing fantastic Pinot Gris, Ortega, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc.  To the surprise of many, the valley is a haven for the more than  19 tasting rooms scattered around town (Second only to Okanagan as  British Columbia’s highest wine producing region!).

Balsamic Vinegar Tastings included

  Venturi-Schulze Balsamic Vinegar is made from thier own juice, simmered to a luscious concentration over an open fire, and converted to vinegar by the slow, natural ancient process. It is aged in over 100 barrels, from 2,500 litre custom made French oak barrels and 227 litre barriques to small series of barrels custom made for them near Modena, as dictated by tradition. Each of these series ranges from 20 to 50 litres in size in five different varieties of wood: acacia, ash, cherry, oak and chestnut, each adding its own unique character. Unlike commercially available balsamic vinegars made from a blend of wine vinegar, grape juice concentrate, caramel colouring and flavourings, Venturi-Schulze Balsamic Vinegar is a pure and natural expression of one family's commitment and passion from earth to bottle.    Venturi-Schulze

Winter 2019 Lunch options  - Guests will pick one  from the below (some restrictions apply)  Your guide will phone in our  order from our first stop. This helps our lunch venue prepare for our  visit, have the table set and food on the table for our arrival.  We like to use all our time wisely, we have so much to show you and so little time as they say...

  • Cider  Braised Beef and Apple stew – braised sirloin, early winter vegetables,  apples, fresh herbs, traditional cider stock, sourdough biscuit with  apple butter
  • Burger -  House made– Ground chuck and pork shoulder patty, smoked tomato chutney,  truffle herb aioli, lettuce, tomato, house made sesame Kaiser with  fresh green salad  - Veggie Burger option contains pecans & mushrooms
  • Scrumpy  Chicken Pot Pie – House made pastry filled with chicken, celery,  carrots, green peas, pearl onions, creamy scrumpy cider sauce, fresh  green salad
  • Apple & Brie Melt - Apple onion chutney, apple butter, brie cheese, cider gastrique, toasted sourdough, salad

Can you buy wine?

 

Absolutely!  All purchases are in Canadian funds and we like to say to our USA freinds, kind of like free? 

Can you ship wine home?

Canadians - yes, each winery knows the drill.

USA guests - NOPE

 You  are welcome to purchase as much wine as you wish to carry, and we mean  carry.  You must physically carry wine through customs. We can not ship,  no matter how many times you ask nicely, felony as it happens.

Customs  allow 2 bottles duty free per person and really the extra bottles are  not much anywhere from .50 cents to $1 per bottle, mostly customs is  looking for spirits and wine is not a concern... just remember to  declare!
